Dhara is the process of pouring steady stream of medicated oil or medicated liquids to the affected area of the body. There are different methods of dhara generally used to treat various skin disorders and neurogenic problems.

Shiro means head and Dhara means flow. It is a treatment that involves gently pouring medicated liquids over the forehead. The liquid can be oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water or plain water.   The pot generally used for dhara is know as dhara chatti which is hung from a wooden stand.  The pot has a small hole in the center through which a small cotton wick is passed. The pot is filled with oil, takram, etc, hung right over the forehead of the patient so that a streak of the medicinal fluid starts flowing on the forehead.
